After the Rain

"My heart leaps up when I behold a rainbow in the sky." William Wordsworth

Last night we had our first thunderstorm of the spring season. John and I sat in the sunroom to watch the flashes of lightning in the sky. There is nothing more amazing than watching God display his power.

After a sunny morning the sky gave way to some of the most beautiful clouds that I have ever seen. Finally, when it seemed that the clouds could hold no more, the rains came.

I was not feeling well and was lying down for a while when John came into the room. He said that he had something that he wanted me to see. He took me onto our front porch to show me a beautiful rainbow. He knew that I wouldn't want to miss it. After eighteen years of marriage, he knows me well.

And God said,"This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth." Genesis 9:12-16 NIV

What a beautiful post! Your pics are awesome - the rainbow, the sun highlighting the trees, brilliant color, clear reflections in the water! God's spectacular rainbows always remind me of hope and give assurance.

The rainbow in your pictures is so resting... lets the mind fly away to beautiful places!

When I was a young girl, around six or seven, I spent the night with my best friend. It started raining when we went to bed and was still raining two days later. I remember being afraid; asked my friends mother if God was going to let us drown again. It is amusing now, but wasn't then, when I didn't know about God.
Every time I see a rainbow I think of His promise.

is there anything that signifies the Lord's
goodness or glory more than a rainbow?

First congrats on 18 years of marriage. Hubby and I have made 16+ and I consider that a feat so 18 is even better.

You captured some wonderful shots of the rainbow. With the sun shining on the trees it is simply magnificent.
