Scent of Heaven

The weather was rainy and chilly this weekend. After a couple of seventy degree days last week it seems we are back to normal temperatures. There were a couple of bright spots in an otherwise dreary weekend; one being the beautiful rainbow that graced our sky on Saturday afternoon, the other being the heavenly scent that I immediately drink in every time I open my front door. My winter daphne is in full bloom!

I know that scripture has many descriptions of the beauty of heaven, but I have been unable to find any scripture on the scent of heaven. I wonder if there is anyone else out there like me that thinks about things such as this. I am quite sure that much of the beauty on earth serves as a little glimpse of what is to come. If that is true, then the wonderful scents that we enjoy have to give some insight into the scent of heaven. What do you think?

I do wish I could make my pictures into scratch-and-sniff ones. Or maybe I could bottle the essence and send it to all of my friends. In any case, the only flaw that I can find with my winter daphne is that some of the leaves are yellowing. I am assuming that all of the rain has caused this. I hope the roots are not staying too wet. I would hate to loose this plant.

I only wish it were warm enough outside to open up the windows and let the beautiful fragrance drift throughout my house!

Ah! Now I know what a daphne looks like! It's beautiful, and I can imagine that its fragrance is heavenly! Thanks for posting; I enjoy seeing flowers from different parts of the country.

I like the song "I Can Only Imagine" that makes us think of heaven. But I know that in my most imaginative thoughts, I can't begin to understand the reality of heaven. But I do know that it'll be perfect and glorious in every way - sights, sounds, smells, relationships, family . . . and "Jesus Will Outshine Them All," as the old song says!

Thanks for a beautiful post!

What a beautiful Daphne! I think the fragrance is stronger and more lemony than that of Winter Honeysuckle, but I've been afraid to try one. I think I may have a spot with good enough drainage now. You're giving me Daphne envy. :)

I walked into a garden center one time and caught the fragrance of daphne all the way across the enclosure where the plants were. I found it without help. After I read how difficult they could be, I was glad I waited until I checked them out. I wish I could visit yours, it is beautiful and I am sure it smells even better than it looks.

Hi again Carla, now I do wish blogger could sort out a gadget for smelly vision posts ;-)

I too love the scent of Daphne… one I keep meaning to add to my garden list. I love the foliage on yours. Hope the yellow leaves aren’t a problem… perhaps it needs some feeding?

I spotted Daphne at a Garden Center recently and wanted one so badly. But I must watch the garden budget this year. She was a bit pricey for my blood. Oh, how I wanted that wonderful smelling thing. Ah, if only we did have scratch and sniff computers but my imagination has me smelling yours today. I am thinking such natural things will be filling the air of the heavens above…

Daphne has such a heavenly perfume. I see so many things in your garden that are also in mine ... just 6 months out of sync.
