Then and Now

Isn't it funny how time changes things? Last week it was hot and so very dry, but after a day of rain (a little over two inches) everything is green and beautiful again. It made me think about how just a couple of months ago I thought that the winter was going to last forever. I knew it wouldn't, but it just seemed like it would.

I spent some time today looking at some of my late winter posts to see exactly how much things have changed since then. Those of you who have been reading my blog for a while may remember my post about our new vegetable garden. It is hard to believe that we have now harvested some wonderful romaine and broccoli.

Then (early March)

Now (a little overgrown, but producing broccoli)

Then (February, I thought John had ruined my knock out roses.)

Now (His 'tough love' did them a favor)

Then (Our landscaping looked dull and drab.)

Now (It is my favorite place to sit and drink coffee or dine.)

Now (We have baby tomatoes on the vine.)

Now (We have heads of cabbage on our plants.)

One thing in life is certain.....things are always changing!

I just love seeing everything coming to life in spring. It all looks great! I have heard that knockout roses are pretty hard to kill. I am going to have to try some since I can't grow a rose bush to save my life! Yours are beautiful!

I know exactly what you mean. The winter landscape (without snow) is always drab and ugly. It is just amazing how quickly the plants grow and the shrubs leaf out. They just explode. Guess they are happy to have mild temperatures and sunshine--at last.

All of it looks so good! It is amazing what rain and sunshine in the correct order will do! Maybe next year my yard will look good as this is the first year of really planting. Maybe I need to come to you for veggie tips! Wow!!

Your garden and your vegetables look wonderful! We've been harvesting broccoli too -- so much better than what's in Food Lion.

Amazing! So many lovely things from nowhere! Good job, Carla! I think I'll prune my roses harder next year.

Great then and now shots. Funny how hard we are to please, after me grumbling about the lack of rain all summer I am now grumbling that it is too dry. It is bucketing down in Sydney but remains subbornly dry up here.

PS I think we got about the same amount of rain you did -- 2.4" from the main system and some more last night. Much needed! We'd only gotten a quarter of an inch in over a month and were getting very dry.
