Today was a beautiful rainy day. I know that most people may think that this statement is an oxymoron; however, after a very dry spring, rain is a welcome sight. It has also been unusually cool and today was no exception.
One of my favorite things to do on a cool, rainy day is to sit in the sunroom and watch the raindrops gently falling on the pond. This makes me think of one of my favorite artist, Claude Monet. His series of paintings called water lilies are probably some of the most beautiful paintings I have ever seen.
I am not an artist. I can't even begin to create a beautiful painting, but I do recognize beauty when I see it; and today when the rain subsided, that is exactly what I saw.
Many of Monet's paintings depicted his flower garden at Giverny. I have never been there, however I know it must have been beautiful to inspire such amazing works of art.
I feel as though I have my own Giverny of sorts. Mine does not sit on the banks of the Seine in France. Mine sits in the middle of the piedmont in North Carolina.
And I am sure that I enjoy my Giverny just as much as Monet enjoyed his.
I must admit, however, that as much as I love the lilies in our pond.....John hates them. Everyone who fishes here curses them. Many a fishing line have become victim to their clutches. Quite often, people give advice on how to rid the pond of these nuisances. As for me....they are part of my Giverny and I will protect them for as long as I have breath.

Oh yes protect them ... I would love a pond like that! I remember the first time I saw a Monet's waterlily paintings and was awe struck. I have been to Giverny, a pilgrimage of sorts in honour of that moment of awe.
I could see where they would be irritating to fisher-people. But, I agree with you, they're wonderful.--Randy
You have a very special place. I hope it always stays just as it is. It is very easy to find open waters to fish in, so they really don't need to take this one.

I'm sure Monet would love them. They are really nice and peaceful.
That does indeed look like Giverny! Beautiful.
i predict that you are about to receive an
avalanche of people to follow you. your
blog is just beautiful and you are so kind
and gracious.
not to mention the water lilies! :)
Wow, lovely pond, is it right outside your door?
I love cozy rainy days but we don't often get them after spring, it's more like a downpour and the air is often muggy when it does.
NO broccoli yet and I looked at my garden diary I try to write in and on March 17th I mentioned that Jason had planted the seeds the week before! I don't know why it's taking so long, the leaves are looking so big.
Beautiful pond!!! I have been begging hubby to make me a pond (just a small one by the patio for years). I also live in NC. I have decided to follow your blog because I am sure we have a lot in common.
God's blessings,
Bren
Oh, how beautiful! The last photo is my favorite although they are all so pretty! Your love for nature and your ability to find pleasure in the things around you are so evident in your post! I almost felt I was sitting in your sunroom watching the rain fall as I read! Great post!
