Our local farmer's market has closed for the season. What a shame! I will miss the fresh vegetables that are so readily available in the summer. Thankfully, the fall season has some veggies of its own to share. Until they are ready, I'll have to look back on pictures from the summer market.
My dad still has butter beans producing. He also has an assortment of wonderful fall greens that are just now ready to pick. We have already enjoyed some delicious mustard greens and turnip greens. I still miss my tomatoes, fresh from the vine.
John and I finally planted our fall garden (a little late) last weekend. We have not had much rain at all and we couldn't decide if it was even worth the effort. After much consideration and procrastination, we planted some romaine, kale, broccoli, and cabbage. It has been unusually warm for this time of the year, so maybe some of it will have time to grow and produce.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens. Unless the weather cooperates, it looks like I'll have to drag out the water hose. It will be worth it to have some good ole fall veggies to eat. Do you have a fall veggie garden? What do you have growing?

i have never grown a vegetable garden, but my dad
always does. he spoiled us with all his lovely produce.
i hope yours does well for you!
Oh my gosh, Carla, I didn't even know you could plant things this late! We are not good at gardening at all. We might have gotten one or two tomatoes off our plants, and that's about it. Our backyard is quite shady, so that probably has a lot to do with it. I hope everything you planted comes up nice and healthy and that you don't have to do much watering! Have a wonderful week!... These great tubs of product remind me of the harvest festivals we had a church when I was a kid. I can smell it now.
I didn't get a fall garden started this year. It's been so dry that it would probably have been a disaster. I hope you have some luck with yours. It's a shame that your market is closed for the season. Ours is open year round and I need to take advantage of it more often.
So glad you planted a fall garden. I have mine mostly planted too and also have to water. Thankfully watering it is much easier than the ornamental beds. I suggest you plant some garlic. It is a veggie that is so rewarding. I bought normal cloves at our grocery story, separated them, and planted them. All garlic is not up and growing. Nothing beats the fresh taste of garlic from one's own garden and it is easy to grow and harvest. Mine will be ready next June and will do fine all winter.Try it if you get the chance.
We are bemoaning the winding down of our farmers' market too. Around here, the season seems to pass very quickly. Of course, that's what makes it so dear. Our only gardening is with herbs since we live in the city and don't have a lot of room for anything else.
Lovely photos of your market.
Best,
Bonnie
Love these pics so full of reds, orange, and yellow! Hope your garden does really well! We don't have one, but I remember my daddy's greens patch. And Mama could cook them like no one else!
It's extremely dry here, but I'm hoping for soaking rains soon. Hope you are doing well. Have a great weekend!
I'm growing lettuce and spinach in containers on my deck. I don't have enough sunny space for veggies and flowers in the ground (and since I have to choose, I have flowers), but the container gardens work pretty well - and they're away from the hungry rabbits!
Well..my family loves all kind of vegetables..and we are very lucky because my father has a vegetable garden and the kids love to help ..and eat straight form the plant!

It is autumn in Italy too, we will be growing broccoli, cauliflower, salads, cabbage, fennel..and something else maybe...
We haven't planted our fall garden yet. We still have to clean up the summer garden!
Wonderful color! The only thing we grow in the fall are pumpkins and gourds. Once we grew "doucette", and I don't for the life of me know how to say that in English. But it is a kind of lettuce that grows close to the ground. It is delicious! Wish I had some of those tomatos! xoxo
What can be better than FRESH picked garden produce?? Not too much!!
Carla, as usual you have included some beautiful photos! I wish I had some fall veggies. . . .
Have a great week!
Yours is closing and our Farmers Markets are just starting. We have two growing seasons in south Florida, luck us :)
