Stopping By the Woods (Repost)

Now, I consider myself a "summer" person, however, it has been unusually hot here in North Carolina for most of the summer. The things that I enjoy about summer, like morning walks along the dewy paths and evenings spent on the front porch swing, have been next to impossible in this heat. Without these inspirational activities I seem to be experiencing writer's block. So, with that little confession out of the way, I thought I would repost one of my winter favorites. I think that I am hoping that reading this will somehow remind everyone that "this (hot weather) too shall come to pass." Enjoy! :)

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

John, Carson, and I went for a walk in the snowy woods this morning. I couldn't help but to recall one of my favorite Robert Frost poems. "Stopping By the Woods."
The snow was blowing off of the trees and glistening in the air like glitter. John said that it looked like glitter from angels' wings. I would have to agree with him.

I, for one, needed this reminder! The poem is one of my winter favorites. There is a breeze blowing up here in Indiana at least. Humidity might actually be down a bit--still hot. And heat and humidity still in forecast....

Thank you. I needed this, today. It is overwhelmingly hot, here and I long for those snowy days. I, too have struggled b/c I can't breath outside.

dear carla,

i know you meant well, and i appreciate it, i
really do. but one look at your gorgeous
snowy photos, i felt myself melting all the
beauty.

last winter, which was particularly cold for
much of the country, i kept thinking, "i love
this so much better than the heat of the
summer."

not long now, though.

Such pretty-and cooling pictures! As hot as it is though, I kind of prefer the heat to the cold but a little cool would be nice:)

Ahhh! I feel cooler just reading those words and looking at your beautiful pics! The last scene with the amazing reflections would make a great Christmas card! I, too, love the poem.

Oh my goodness--while getting the guest room in good order today, I pulled out a copy of this very poem. It is beautifully illustrated. And, being such a sweltering day, I sat down and read it to myself. I really think I felt cooler--or maybe it was just the ac kicking in.

Best.

Even though it was over a 100 degrees here today, I don't miss the snow. Of course, I can retreat to the air conditioning. =)

Very refreshing to see snow right now! Weather man reported yesterday that since May 1, we have only had 7 days under 90+ degree temps. It was nice to see your cold looking snowy pictures...

Don't pine for winter it will be on you soon enough. Spring is beginning to spring around here so fall must surely be on its way soon in your part of the world.

Hello, I saw you post on Kelli's blog and was drawn to your title. I too am a Southern Lady, so I had to stop by. That's when I found out that you are from NC. I am doubly happy, now. You see I am a transplant from NC living for the last 12 years in Utah out West. I LOVE NC and miss it terribly, but I confess that the hot Summer this year would have set me off a bit. We moved from Chapel Hill, but my people are from Bladen County. My favorite city to live in is Wilminton. Where are you from?

I loved the snowy pictures. We get much snow here, too, but hopefully not for awhile. :)

Have a great one!
Elizabeth

It's so hot here too and these photos make me feel a lot cooler:) I wish we got snow here in TX, we did get a little this past winter, the kids went wild when they say it, but it's unusual to see.
Have a lovely Sunday.
hugs

I love that poem! Did you know you can sing it to the tune of "Hernando's Hideaway" or "Your Cheatin' Heart"? (Sorry, now you won't be able to get those tunes out of your head.) Anyway, I think you're brilliant to post this. It's been so hot...I get cranky in this kind of heat! But you're right--this too will pass. :)

I love this poem - and your photos are great!

I am probably one of your few visitors that is not yet ready for summer to pass. Early mornings are in the 40s-50s, and day temps are in the 70s-80s. The cool, beautiful summers are one of the reasons I wanted to move up here!

Stay cool, sweet Carla!

Hugs,
Zuzu

Living in the desert of Arizona I was hopeful. But it didn't work. Lovely post, though.
