Back to School

Although technically it is still summer, I have always considered this time of year the beginning of fall. I think this line of thought dates back to my early school days. Beginning a new school year signified the official end of summer. Am I the only one who thinks that way?

We have officially started back to school in our household this week. Catie has started her senior year in the Early College program and Carson and I have started her seventh grade year here at home. I think it is going to take a while to get into the swing of things.

At least the temperatures have dropped a little and the evenings have become quite pleasant. We are once again enjoying our nightly ritual of porch sitting.

In honor of new beginnings, I thought I would share some pictures of the lovely apples that were at the farmer's market in Charlotte last weekend. Apples always seem to accompany the beginning of a school year, don't you think?

Beautiful apple pics! They would be so pretty framed! It's a little cooler here - still in the lower 90's - and I feel a tinge of fall in the air. Yay!! Hope the new school year is a great one for you and your daughters!

When I left my comment on your last post, I think I neglected to tell you that Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady is a book I love. It and The Charlotte Mason Companion were the inspiration behind me beginning a nature journal...scrapbook style.

I homeschooled my kids from 1999 up until this summer, when my second child finished high school. I'm kind of in a new season of life right now...and not sure I really like it. I so enjoyed homeschooling my kids, and I'm definitely going to miss it.

I definitely am not in fall mode yet. I want the hot days of summer to last several more months.

Blessings to you,

Apples do mark the beginning of a new year. What types did you buy? I am anxiously awaiting my first Fujji.

Seeing those lovely apples takes me back to my northern roots and the coming of all the beautiful aromas and colors of autumn. It was always my favorite time of year.
It will be October before we see the end of summer here.
Have a delightful weekend, Carla

The apple photos are so pretty! Yes, I do think the beginning of school marks the end of summer. My kids are all grown and living on their own now, but I still get a kick out of seeing parents & children buying school supplies. So exciting!
Wishing you a lovely weekend, Carla!

I love these. They remind me of Pennsylvania where my sister lives. Actually, against the blue and white check tablecloth they just remind me of home. The fall is THE season that makes me miss the US... like Cindy said above, autumn football games, crisp air. Your pictures are so beautiful, Carla! And your blog is a little window into the homeland! I hope you have a great Saturday! xoxo

I often think of the start of school as the start of fall too. Time flies by so fast. Those apples looks SO good! Did you buy some to make some homemade applesauce? Love that stuff!

I'm welcoming apples and fall. Enough of too hot and humid for this season. An apple crisp is also welcome.

Best wishes and happy learning to the girls for the school year.

I love your apple photos. There is something about a being at Farmer's Market and being surrounded by the beautiful colors of freshness that makes me feel full and alive inside. I too feel that the beginning of the school year marks the beginning of fall. The summer mornings and evenings become cooler, even the smell of the air changes. I love this time of the year. It gets beneath my skin. My inner being anticipates, recreates and resurfaces a feeling that lies deep within and reconnects me to my youth. Ahhhh.... fall.

We can't wait to pick apples this fall. I will need to find a place near me in Greenville, South Carolina.

It is nice to have a few cooler temps especially late evening, early morning, however they are forecasting 90's again this week. Those apples look so yummy! I canned quite a few different apple "recipes" a few weeks ago. Apples do spell fall!
Have a great week!
Take Care,
