Inspiration For My Blog (Repost)

As I was visiting some of your wonderful blogs yesterday, I came across a lovely reminder of where my inspiration for my blog was found. One of my very first blogging friends, Zuzu, posted on some wonderful gifts that she had received from others.

One of those gifts was this beautiful book. The words that follow this next picture were written by me last February. I thought that some of my newer followers might like to know the story behind my blog.

I didn't just happen upon writing a blog by accident. I had some inspiration for my endeavor. One of my favorite books is a diary written by a naturalist and artist, Edith Holden, in 1906. Edith kept a diary of birds, butterflies, bees, and flowers each month of that year. Her words were carefully written by hand and the art work was her own. The book was actually found on the shelves of an English country house seventy years after it was written, long after the death of its author. It was then published and became a favorite book of many, including myself. I am certainly no author or artist, however, I am inspired by nature and the wonderful God that created it all. I want to capture what I see around me in my own everyday life here in my little corner of the world.

I love this, a shop in England called Marks and Spencer used to sell diary/journals and notecards/stationery etc in The Edwardian Lady brand. I used to get a journal every year and write in it, I loved the pretty pages. Haven't had one now in years. Thanks for reminding me of it, I might have to try and get one:)

I love that book, and through it and The Charlotte Mason Companion, I was inspired to incorporate nature study and nature journal/diaries into our homeschooling curriculum. My nature journal usually contains poetry I have written, as well as photos from my nature walk...I have ZERO drawing ability, so, instead, I rely on my ability with words.

That is such a wonderful book, and I'm glad that it inspired you as it did.

Oh, and thanks for your encouraging comment about me going back to college. I've got to embrace this new season of life (grown children/no homeschooling).

Blessings,
Patti

I have a copy of this book and consider it an inspiring companion. I'm glad you reposted the inspiration for your blog! I didn't know. (SOMEday you might consider copying this paragraph and making it a "page" with its own "tag" on your blog so newcomers would be as inspired as I was to read it today.)

How sweet, Carla! And I love that the name of your blog came from the book - it's perfect!

I do love this book so very much! The paintings are exquisite, but I also love Edith's entries - the poetry, thoughts, and observations.

Our little blogs are our diaries! But I also hope to create a book of my favorite things.

Wishing you a lovely week ahead, my friend!
