Summer Cool?

Summer cool? Wow, now that is an oxymoron! The heat is almost unbearable today. The girls and I spent the morning in Monroe at the doctor's office. They are both heading off to camp on Monday and Catie has been complaining of an earache. I wanted to have her checked out before she left to make sure everything was okay. Thankfully, the doctor was able to correct her problem and she is good to go!

When we returned home the heat and humidity was so high that I decided that the animals needed some fresh water. After about thirty minutes of watering the animals and the tomato and basil plants, I was dripping with sweat. I came directly into the house and slipped into something dry and cooler; and I have not been worth anything since. I don't know about you, but it seems that if I ever leave the house to run errands (especially in extreme heat), I am no good for the rest of the day.

I spotted the new Southern Living (a must read for any southern gal) and was intrigued by one of the cover titles. Summer cool.

I think I'll spend the rest of the afternoon in my artificially cool house reading it.

Although I love nature and the outdoors, today I am content to see it from here in my comfy sunroom.

Thankfully, it is shaded by several huge oak trees in the summer and the sun doesn't overpower it. Maybe in the summer I should call it the shaderoom. What do you think?
Do you find that out of the ordinary errands can disrupt your day and cause you to get sidetracked? Or am I the only one that has a problem with that?

i'm so glad to hear that! my kids think i'm crazy
when i say, "i've already been out in the heat and
can't or won't do it again."

it completely saps me. i can accomplish quite a
lot right here inside my nice air conditioned house.

i love the idea of calling your sunroom, your
shaderoom in the summer. brilliant.

Indoors is the only place I want to be right now, it's so hot here it's just no fun outside (unless you're in a pool)!
Have a great weekend - stay cool!

It sounds like a good idea to seek respite in your shade room.

What an awesome awesome view! Have a great weekend. Stay summer cool:) Maybe bake the awesome pie. I saved my copy for that recipe and once I get my kitchen done it might be on the agenda!

The pie on the Southern Living looks yummy! It has been super hot here today too. At 7pm it was still around 98!! Heat index in shade 107!!! I'm with you when you go out into the heat I'm not worth a hoot later on. Who can think of doing anything after doing the errands. I'm drenched standing outside for 4 minutes!! Think we will get an early start tomorrow morning so by early afternoon we can move to a shady area. Would love to have some rain though. Your pond looks pretty inviting even now I'd like to jump right in it!!
Take Care,
Ulrike

Ugh, I get so thrown off if something unexpected messes with my schedule! I have days that I do certain things and if something happens to ruin that I am all confuzzled the rest of the day. The heat also wipes me out. We are going through a rain spurt here and it is unbelievably muggy and humid! That pie on the cover sure does look yummy!

Great view from your window! The heat is horrible, isn't it? And tomorrow it is to be 103 F here. We were in our pool at 10:30 am this morning! The only place that's comfortable outside the a/c.

Lemon meringue pie? :-)

I have similar problems with the heat - just knocks me for a loop if I try to do anything outside. We went to Target, Costco and Trader Joe's this afternoon and then I could hardly get it together to make supper....which was only heating up soup and making a panini sandwich with our garden tomatoes! Watering the garden is the hardest job - 1/2 hr. dragging those hoses when it's 100+ and I'm dead!

I think cold drinks and pie is all we need these days!!!
