This weekend our family traveled to the mountains with the youth group from our church to go rafting. Spending the weekend with over forty teenagers just about did me in. Just kidding...they are some of the best young people around. After a rainy day of rafting, an evening of bowling, and night with little sleep we left the group to travel from Asheville to Boone to explore the campus of Appalachian State University. Catie has decided to leave the five year early college program that she is in to graduate this year and attend a four year university. One of the schools that she is interested in is ASU, so we decided to take a look at it. Instead of traveling the highways, we decided to ride along the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway. I took a few pictures on the way.
I love the shadows of the clouds on the mountains.
This picture makes me wonder what lies around the bend.
I love this one with the light and trees at the end of the tunnel.
Can you see a little glimpse of fall color in this one?
Of course, what would a September visit to the mountains be without a trip to an apple orchard?
Hopefully, in a few weeks when the leaves have changed colors I will get to take another trip to the mountains to enjoy the beauty of fall.

Lovely pics, I bet it looks gorgeous up there in the Fall :) I miss seeing the beautiful tree colors here in TX!
I love going on the Blue Ridge Parkway! We have not done all of it, mainly from where it starts to a little bit past Asheville. There is a lot of beautiful countryside on that parkway! I'd love to visit the apple orchard along with having a cup of apple cider!!
It has been a very busy time around here as I have been getting caught up on yard work. It seems that the weeds want to take over, if only they could look like a flower garden!!
Hope things are well your way!
Take Care,
Ulrike
P.S. Do you think you'll make it to the bloggers get together? Would love to meet you if you can make it!
Mountains and roads bordered in leafy green ... favourites with me. Our apple orchards are about to burst into spring bloom.
Lucky you! I would love to explore the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Asheville/Boone area. Your photos are beautiful!
Simply gorgeous! Gotta LOVE that area of the state as well as the coast!!
I just love the Blue Ridge Parkway and the western NC area. It is so tranquil and about as close to heaven on earth you can get to. I hope ASU works out for your daughter that way she'll be close to home.
What a gorgeous area Carla. Thank you for sharing your pictures of the parkway! The tunnel picture is one I would have taken myself... I appreciate the way you see the world. Hope you are doing well! xoxo
We took a week-long trip to Maggie Valley, North Carolina, back in 1998, which, of course, meant that we spent many days traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway. Truly, we fell in love with that area!!! It's totally beyond gorgeous...and that was in the month of July. I can only imagine the beauty of the the autumn colors.
Hope you're having a lovely week,
Patti
Such a lovely trip you made - just gorgeous!

Thanks so much for the Blue Ridge Parkway visit! It's something I look forward to every year. Yes, I travel from Chicago just to drive those beautiful roads. Of course, when I was a child, we went in every season except winter. The second date with my, now, husband was a fall picnic on the parkway.
In answer to your question, I'm sure you could substitute apples for the pears. It's really a fairly basic muffin recipe.
Best,
bonnie
you take such fun trips! the blueridge parkway is
just beautiful, and your photos do it justice.
i took two of my girls a few years ago and had
lots of fun.

Beautiful photos. We want to explore the beauty of the Blue Ridge Parkway one of these years.
Just blog hopping. You have a lovely blog. I'd love to have you link up with my Simple Pleasures series some Thursday.
The Appalachian Mts. are so beautiful. I haven't been there in many years but my family used to go there all the time when I was a kid. Incredible wildflowers there!
Hi Carla!
Thank you so much for the Best Wishes!

That is a beautiful area, Carla. Your phots are gorgeous.
My granddaughter went on a Christian youth retreat with her whole 8th grade class in that area. She said it was a wonderful experience for her.
