Doesn't the water in a mountain river always look clearer than anywhere else?
I took some pictures of Chimney Rock as we traveled through the picturesque town. One of my girls' favorite vacations was spent on that mountain. If you have seen "The Last of the Mohicans," you will understand how beautiful the scenery is on the trails near the water falls.
The weather was gorgeous today. The temperature was around 65 degrees F. so we ate our lunch outside on a deck overlooking Lake Lure. Beautiful!
I couldn't help but notice that the rhododendrons were starting to bud.
After lunch, John and I went to the town of Flat Rock to the home of the great American writer, Carl Sandburg. After spending much of his life in many different places, he and his wife, daughters, and two grandchildren settled on the farm in the beautiful mountains of our state.
After a relentless winter, it was wonderful to have such a beautiful day to explore the western part of our beautiful state! A day spent with John is always a perfect day!

Lovely trip to some of my favorite spots, and yes, the NC mountains are beautiful at any time. Visited Carl Sandburg's house at Flat Rock a few years back, just as the goats were birthing their babes - my little granddaughter was enchanted! Tour of the house was most interesting, especially as it has been left virtually intact, always a nice thing. I'll look forward to your post on the farm.
Do you know that the late Patrick Swayze's 'Dirty Dancing' movie was made at Lake Lure? The old camp buildings burned in a fire later I believe.
I walked in the woods yesterday and took pics similar to your rushing river one - altho' mine was just a creek - it did look pretty in the sun. The red tail hawks were also enjoying the air currents and the Carolina blue sky was awesome. A perfect day.

A perfect day indeed! I love this area of NC. My inlaws live in the area and we try to visit Roan Mtn when the rhodies are in bloom (missed it last year-too early). It looks like it will be a great year for them. This is a great day! Now I have to go watch Last of the Mohicans:) I don't remember it.
I have some wonderful memories of North Carolina trips. I've seen chimney rock but missed Sandburg's home.
I just finished a book about white water kayaking on mountain rivers. Looking at your first photo, I'm wondering if that stream is possible. Probably not:)

I love your pics of beautiful North Carolina. We've traveled through there several times and enjoy its natural beauty! I especially love the waterfalls, too! The rhododendrons will be gorgeous when in full bloom on the mountainsides.
The mountains of NC are wonderful. I haven't been there in many years now that we've moved closer to the coast, but we used to take weekend trips there all of the time and I'll never forget Craggy Gardens in June.
Carla, how exciting going to Carl Sandburg's home. I discovered his poetry a year or so ago.
