Oak Island, North Carolina

Do you have a favorite place to vacation? I sure do. Fortunately, one of my favorite places is only about three hours from home making it easy to visit often. Oak Island is a wonderful North Carolina island where summer days are spent on the beach enjoying the salty breeze.



Beach days for our family consist of bike riding, beach sitting, game playing, picnicking, and dolphin watching. We don't spend a lot of time watching television or shopping. My girls have never experienced the beach any other way. What about you? How do you enjoy spending your vacation?



This week my girls are at Camp Caswell, a Christian camp on the island. John and I are going to have a little beach time to ourselves. I think I'll plan a couple yummy meals to enjoy on the beach...any ideas??

    I love walking along the beach and collecting shells or beach glass. Such a lovely peaceful time. Have fun at the beach!

    Sounds like you're enjoying a nice vacation! We never really go on vacation, just day trips.

    It is dry here too, although it looks like we might get rain tonight. A lot of the places around us have gotten rain recently.

    My summer favorite is yogurt with fresh berries and muesli mixed in... for dinner or lunch of course!

    OH wow, love those photos, I could just hear the waves crashing. Dont forget your sunscreen.

    I like the mountains when we get away but if it is to the beach, it Folly beach in SC.

    Enjoy your beach time. One of these days I hope to visit Oak Island. I've been in Kill Devil Hills for almost two weeks and have loved every second.

    Last year at the end of June I posted a coconut shrimp recipe that I made while we were at the beach that was easy and really good.

    Gorgeous photos!! I love the beach!!

    Right now, since I am living far from the ocean, my favorite vacation spot is, of course, Florida's Atlantic coast. However, when we lived in Florida and were only 25 minutes from the ocean, we loved Great Smoky National Park for a vacation spot.

    We love Oak Island. We have a cottage there but only go in the Spring and Fall. Too hot and too busy otherwise. I love your pictures of the ocean. Now I'm wishing I was there. Thanks. Hugs, Jane

    It's so nice to meet a fellow North Carolinian.....and yes Oak Island is a wonderful place to visit....I hope you make many wonderful memories while you are there next week....

    My husband and I have taken church kids to Camp Caswell....It was always fun and HOT but the kids are having so much fun they don't even notice......

    I hope you will come over for a visit......I live in Winston Salem now but used to live in Wilson so I am very familiar with all the territory you are talking about.....

    Such a beautiful beach, Carla! I lived in CA for 15 years, and driving over to spend a day at the beach was one of our most favorite mini-vacations! I loved walking and playing in the surf, enjoying a yummy picnic and reading a book while breathing in that wonderful air...sigh... Enjoy!!!
