The Waiting Is Over....Or Is It?

Well it is official. Catie is a Carolina Tarheel! She made her decision last night. We are so proud of her. Now we will be able to start planning and buying the things that she will need to go off to school in the fall. This is such a bittersweet time for us. We are excited for her highschool graduation and the events that are to come; however, it just seemed to come along way too soon! I don't know if she will ever know what joy she brings to my life on a daily basis. Am I ready to let her go away??

Oh, well...on another note...Spring has been playing tricks on us around here. After a couple of weeks of very warm weather, it seems that this last week has taken us back to winter. It has been cold and rainy, so there is not much to report in the garden. Hopefully, warmer weather will return soon. I guess we are always waiting for something aren't we?

  1. Congrats to Catie! How exciting for her! You are not letting her go, you are letting her spread her wings to soar. My mom told me that when I went into the Army. Fortunately, it has been nice here. Little cold, but no rain! Come on spring!

  2. Congratulations! We are waiting for our twins to make the final choice and I know that things happen for a reason, that they will both end up in the best spot. Please wish your graduate all the best.

  4. Big Big Congrats to Catie and also to Carson! You have two beautiful goal minded young women as daughters! Your good mothering skills reflect with their ambitions. I do believe they will go far in life…

    On your post below:
For houseguest, I keep a small coffee pot with coffee mugs and spoons in their room. Small baskets of flavored teas, filter packs of coffee, creamer, sweeteners, etc sit on a shelf above the coffee pot. I have a cloth lined basket filled with books and brochures of local spots of interest. A telephone and small TV are also in their room in the event they want to utilize them as well. I keep personal sized toiletries (razors, soap, shampoos, deodorant, etc) and a hair dryer in the drawers of the bathroom. I am sure to tell guests to make themselves at home and anything they may need will be in the drawers in case they forgot something. Our Friends call our house a Bed & Breakfast as we also make a country breakfast in the morning…

    Hope some of this helps….

  5. Congratulations to Catie and to you! We have Carolina blue blood running through our family. I met my husband there (he's a graduate - I dropped out and finished at another college later). My dad, sister, brother, two of my children, son-in-law, nephew, cousins, uncle . . .all are/were graduates. I hope she will be happy there!

  6. Excitement . . . anxious thoughts . . . feelings of pride in your beautiful daughter . . . sadness . . . great expectations . . .all these emotions are so normal right now!

I know how hard it is to give a child wings and let him/her go. I thought of this poem when I read this post; it's one of my favorites.

    When you were small
    And just a touch away,
    I covered you with blankets
    Against the cool night air.
But now that you are tall
    And out of reach,
    I fold my hands
    And cover you with prayer.

  15. Congratulations to Catie! The beginning of empty nest syndrome for you. A tough time for sure, but the joy of seeing our children go off and chase their dreams makes it a bit easier. And you are so lucky that you two have a wonderful relationship, so I'm sure you'll be in touch on a regular basis! All my best wishes to all of you!...Donna
