Tonight John took the girls to a John Mayer concert and I spent the evening alone. I should have spent the time working in the storage room; instead, I spent the evening in the garden gathering tomatoes and basil, in the kitchen making pasta with pesto and tomatoes, and watching the cooking channel. I didn't get much accomplished, but I did have a great time!

I guess that's all that matters in the long run! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
Your tomatoes look so yummy, mine always look 'nasty' either split or with dry spots? They still taste ok once you cut those bits away, but I've never been able to get really nice red tomatoes! I have a ton of basil too, need to get some pine nuts so I can make some pesto.
ReplyDeletewhat an amazing father to take his girls
ReplyDeleteto john mayer. i bet they had a blast and
will be happy to return to your pesto!
my daughter, sunday, just told me that
she is 8th in his 'opening' contest. :)
Sounds like a perfect evening to me!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is all that counts! At least you had some nice quiet time to do something you really wanted to do. We got a little bit of rain last night, and are suppose to get some more today. I hope so, even if it means waiting on painting my garden house!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great weekend!
Ulrike
Delicious crop. I can smell the basil from here.
ReplyDeleteYour tomatoes and basil look scrumptious, Carla! I think it is the little things bring us the greatest joy! :)
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend,
Zuzu
I'd say it was a productive evening . . . time alone doing something you enjoy . . . making a delicious dish with homegrown ingredients - which I'm sure your family enjoyed! I think these times relax us and give us new energy to do the things we enjoy less but need to do. Your photo looks like something from a garden or food magazine! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a blessed weekend!
Good for you, Carla! It still sounds like you were very productive. And I wish my tomatoes looked even half as good as yours!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the sweet comment about dad and the chipmunk!... Donna
I love, love, love home grown tomatoes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSounds very productive to me! Pesto is fabulous -- we had pesto linguine just yesterday. My basil is struggling from too much heat and not enough rain.
ReplyDeletehow was the concert? did the girls
ReplyDeletelove it? did your husband have a
terrible headache from the noise
level?
Carla,
ReplyDeleteSo glad you had an enjoyable afternoon to yourself. Tomatoes next to the basil = more happy summer days!
Your husband is a pretty good sport to take the girls to a John Meyer concert:)
ReplyDeleteI'm like you, I enjoy a quiet evening puttering.
Marnie
Now, that sounds like a fabulous evening. :-)
